A clear look at what the Galactic Empire Starter Set includes, its value, and decision rules to help you choose it for your first Star Wars Legion army.
Quick answer
The Galactic Empire Starter Set gives you a complete 600-point Recon-level army with Darth Vader, along with all the dice, templates, tools, and tokens needed to start playing Star Wars: Legion right away. It's a strong choice if you want a ready-to-play Empire force, but you'll need the Essentials Pack separately for the full core rules and additional components.
What the starter set actually contains
The set includes a 600-point Recon-level army led by Darth Vader, plus the dice, templates, tools, and tokens required for your first games. That means you can assemble and play without hunting for separate accessories. However, the set does not include the full core rulebook or the complete range of shared components found in the Essentials Pack, so plan to pick that up if you don't already own it.
Value and trade-offs
At $70.99 (compared to a $99.99 list price), the starter set offers solid savings for the miniatures and accessories you get. The trade-off is that the included army is fixed: you get a playable force out of the box, but limited list-building flexibility until you add expansions. If you're mainly interested in collecting and painting Darth Vader and Imperial troops, the set delivers that too, but you may want to budget for the Essentials Pack to unlock the full game.
Decision rules: Is this starter set right for you?
- You want a playable army now: Choose this set if you want to start playing Star Wars: Legion with a complete 600-point force and all necessary game components in one purchase.
- You already own the Essentials Pack: If you already have the Essentials Pack, this set adds a ready-made Empire army and Darth Vader without duplicating the core rules and shared components.
- You prefer list-building flexibility: Skip this set if you want to build custom armies from scratch; you'll need multiple expansions and the Essentials Pack instead. Consider starting with the Essentials Pack and individual unit expansions for maximum flexibility.
